Chennai recently witnessed a culinary extravaganza with the hosting of the city's first-ever Biryani cooking contest, "Neengalum Aagulam Annapoorani." The event was organized in celebration of Nayanthara's 75th movie, "Annapoorani," also known as the Lady Superstar. This unique initiative, sponsored by the iconic Junior Kuppanna, a 60-year-old legacy brand and South India's favorite non-vegetarian restaurant, drew an impressive 2500 applicants. From this pool, 100 were selected, and further scrutiny resulted in a shortlist of 45 talented contestants who showcased their biryani-making skills at the Santhome community hall.
The competition was fierce, with each hand-cooked biryani offering a unique blend of emphasizing the importance of a holistic approach to biryani preparation. Judging criteria included taste, texture, and presentation.
The stakes were high, with prizes totaling Rs.1,00,000, which included coveted items such as a gold chain, air fryer, portico bedsheets, vouchers, and Swarovski jewelry.
The top 10 contestants from the initial round advanced to the second round, where the winners emerged.
The event was graced by the presence of four esteemed jury members:

- Chef Shri Bala
- Chef Dinesh
- Chef Revathy Shanmugam,
adding a professional touch to the judging process.
In addition to the top three winners, there was also a consolation prize, ensuring recognition for outstanding efforts. To enhance the overall experience, every participant received a goodie bag, contributing to the positive and inclusive nature of the event.
